Mission The mission of Vermont 2-1-1 is to promote the health and well being of all people in Vermont through a statewide information and referral system for streamlined access to community resources. Model Vermont 2-1-1 is a single, centralized community resource information center, providing high quality statewide information and referral (I&R) services in accordance with national standards. The call center staff includes nine full time positions: a director, a call specialist manager, three call specialists, and four regional resource specialists. Partners The organizational structure, standards and service model for Vermont 2-1-1 have been determined in collaboration with more than 30 public and private agencies throughout the state, including local United Ways, Agency of Human Services, Vermont E-911, Vermont Department of Libraries, hospitals, community mental health, and providers of information and referral services statewide. Vermont 2-1-1 is a program of the United Ways of Vermont. On November 19, 2004, the Vermont Public Service Board designated United Ways of Vermont as the service manager for 2-1-1 services throughout Vermont. Vermont 2-1-1 was launched on February 11, 2005. United Ways of Vermont (UWVT) provides administrative and fiscal oversight. The Vermont 2-1-1 Advisory Board reports directly to the UWVT Board of Directors and is responsible for providing ongoing support to Vermont 2-1-1. The Vermont 2-1-1 Collaborative, an informal association of professionals and citizens, meet on a regular basis to advise and review the project during the development and implementation stages. The Collaborative continues to receive statistics and updates on a monthly basis. Additional support comes from the National 2-1-1 Coalition , the Alliance of Information and Referral Systems (AIRS) , United Way of America Council and the AIRS 2-1-1 Institute, which collaboratively facilitate the development and sustainability of 2-1-1 programs nationwide. Funding Vermont 2-1-1 is funded by individual United Ways of Vermont, the Vermont Agency of Human Services, federal and state funds, and grants from local foundations. Significant in-kind support has been received by Verizon Wireless, IBM Corporation and Downs Rachlin Martin PLLC. Calling for 2-1-1 Act United Way of America continues to work with state and local United Ways and other leaders in the 2-1-1 movement to advance The Calling for 2-1-1Act (S. 211/H.R. 211). This federal legislation was introduced in 2007 by, among others, Representative Anna Eshoo in the House, and Senators Hillary Clinton and Elizabeth Dole in the Senate, and would authorize funding to support states’ efforts to increase access to this cost-efficient and critical service.
